The famous scientist Albert Einstein once said that the only guaranteed way to win at roulette is to simply steal the chips from the table, as long as the dealer does not notice. Without denying the authority of the great physicist, it is worth noting though, in the decades (if not centuries) of roulette’s existence, quite a few gambling strategies have been invented, and some of them may actually be useful for the player. Of course, none of the existing strategies can guarantee continued victory, but knowledge of the basic principles of roulette strategy can sometimes significantly reduce losses.
The roulette game strategy, of course, depends first of all on its variety, because each type of roulette has its quirks. In American roulette it is, first of all, the presence of the double zero (00), which increases the house edge to 5.26%. Also, in American roulette there are some types of bets that are absent in other species of this gambling game, for example a five-number bet with zero and double zero (0 – 00 – 1 – 2 – 3), in which case the advantage is 7.89%.
American roulette: the choice of bets
If in poker the strategy also consists in the analysis of the nature of the opponents and in “reading” the poker combinations of the opponents, and in bluffing, in the game of American roulette it all boils down to the choice of bets. As you know, in any roulette and the American one is no exception, there are two main types of inside and outside bets. The odds of winning are different for the different bets, as well as the house advantage, so in order to make at least some profit in playing American roulette, you need to rely not only on luck, but also on the mathematical probability of an outcome on which you bet. The cornerstone of the strategy for a profitable game of American roulette is to bet on the outcome with the highest probability.
